Job Purpose:

The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for performing analyses on chemical samples necessary to ensure the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of our chemical manufacturing units. 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards.

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze raw materials, in-process streams, environmental samples and finished products by routine laboratory methods.
  • Critically evaluate each analyses and results to detect sources of error prior to reporting results.
  • Input analytical data and have a working knowledge of the LIMS and chromatography systems
  • Proactive communication with production personnel and support groups regarding results. 
  • Function competently in assigned lab areas and job tasks with minimal supervision, and understand each lab area as it relates to the overall lab function. 
  • Have a working knowledge of instruments along with routine maintenance, calibration, use of basic statistical process control techniques, and upkeep of equipment and instruments in the laboratory. 
  • Maintain good housekeeping and safety practices, conduct routine inspections as directed.
  • Perform analyses of routine and non-routine samples including process, finished product, environmental and raw materials.
  • Prepare standards and solutions required for laboratory analyses when necessary.
  • Collect samples and perform analyses on the plant wastewater treatment systems using environmental procedures and methods.
  • Release materials per COA's or analysis.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned. 

 

Key interactions: 

Internal: Operations, process analyser technicians, chemists, engineers

External: Celanese analysts, operations and shipping services

 

Notable Working Conditions: Work 12-hour rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends. Work overtime when required, including call-outs. When working in the lab, must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect themselves from harm.

 

Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED  

 

Language Requirements: English

 

Background and Experience:

  • Proficient math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Must meet all on-the-job training requirements needed for the position within agreed upon progression plan and time table 
  • Must be familiar with standard Microsoft Office software tools: business standard.

Desires Qualifications: 

  • Associates of Arts degree in Sciences (AAS)
  • Prior Lab Analyst experience in a chemical or refining facility
  • Knowledge of statistical process control

  • Serve on the Emergency Response Team, including attending scheduled trainings

  • Must be able to read Standard Operating Procedures and other manuals (English)
