Job purpose

Provide workplace health management and safety support for the Bay City, Houston and Bishop OQ sites. Can treat, manage and provide support for employees on routine or everyday medical incidents and provide guidance on seeking additional outside support. 

Provide support to ensure regulatory compliance in the key competencies of Occupational Health and Safety.  The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and standards.

 

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide occupational medical surveillance for employees,
  • Provide primary care treatment which includes first aid, advanced care, and/or referral of occupational injuries/illnesses with thorough documentation of treatments and findings.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for workers compensation programs for Bay City, Bishop, and Houston sites under direction of Health and Safety Manager.  Partnering with Human Resources to provide specific employment and leave details.
  • Provide medical services to Roehm – return to site, fit testing, coordinate physicals on site, random/cause drug screens
  • Actively maintain health related processes and policies to ensure we meet ISO and regulatory compliance. 
  • Track and submit annual OSHA logs
  • Conduct periodic workplace walkthrough assessments of the Bay City Facility to maintain a comprehensive knowledge of current and prospective plant processes and the physical requirements of various positions. Communicate with Human Resources Physical Requirements for job descriptions and in alignment and partnership with Fit for Duty Evaluations.
  • Emergency Response Team Member.
  • Provide medical certifications for employees to use respirators, operate powered industrial vehicles, and participate in the Emergency Response Team – fit testing and physicals, etc.
  • Provide/coordinate medical training and support for the ERT and Medical Team
  • Complete and submit annual medical reports
  • Schedule/coordinate annual physicals for ERT members – blood draw, audiometry, spirometry, EKG, and vision test. Coordinate with company doctor for hands-on evaluation
  • Become familiar with OQ Information System (OIS), SAP and additional HS software programs. .
  • Oversee ergonomic program for Bay City, Bishop and Houston.
  • Support Safety during turnarounds and outages
  • Support HS program – Wellness, Safety Committee, HSE Day, etc.
  • Responsible for case management duties, including work-related injury follow-up, return to work, and workman's compensation paperwork for Bay City, Bishop, and Houston sites.
  • Anticipate, recognize, assess and monitors work-related health risks associated with physical, and ergonomic hazards.
  • Assesses work exposures, develops monitoring strategies, interprets data, makes conclusions, prepares reports on occupational observations, monitoring analysis and provides recommendations for control or correction requirements on identified hazards.
  • Hearing conservation and fit testing for Bay City and Bishop
  • Actively drives health related processes and programs to ensure expectations and compliance with company policies and related local, state and federal rules and regulations.  
  • Maintain equipment inventory and ensures the proper maintenance, custody, operation, and calibration of a variety of occupational sampling and monitoring equipment reviewing new and existing equipment.
  • Ensure new hires and employees returning to work meet position physical requirements. Working with HR to obtain medical certifications and Fit-for-Duty documentation as needed.
  • Support both Bay City Bishop & Houston for medical and safety-related issues.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Background and experience

  • Worked in a medical or petrochemical environment.
  • Proficient in case management
  • Knowledge in OSHA Injury & Illness recordkeeping requirements
  • Apply principles, techniques, and methods for identifying, measuring, and controlling occupational health hazards in a petrochemical environment.

Competencies and skills

  • Ability to interpret OSHA & DOT regulations or related standards.
  • Strong leadership & interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge with Microsoft Office programs & Excel spreadsheets.
  • License, certifications, training and/or experience around administering basic first aid including IV.
