Job Purpose:

Provide process support to Plant Engineering activities, usually involving preparation of major capital project funding requests or execution of detailed engineering of projects.  Lead teams in accomplishing plant expansion or process improvement projects.

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Design improvements to production capacity, efficiency, process safety, safety, and environmental performance, involving complex designs for major changes or new units with impact of up to three million dollars.
  • Work with support teams to monitor unit operations, correct problems, and assist in improvements, usually for special problems or projects.
  • Provide process support to Environmental activities, for major designs and permitting requirements.  Performs calculations for environmental incidents and Root Cause Analyses.
  • Lead Process Safety Reviews and Process Hazard Analyses on new installations and modifications to existing operations.  Review completed Process Hazard Analyses.
  • Communicate and document process engineering activities in unit support, design, plant engineering, environmental, and process safety support activities, with little or no review required.
  • Support process units for advanced troubleshooting.
  • Support site Environmental, Health and Safety activities.

Internal: Operations, HSE, Project Engineering, I&E Engineering, Process Control Engineering

External: 3rd party contractors and/or vendors as appropriate

 

Notable Working Conditions: Mixture of office and chemical plant as necessary.

Education Requirements: Minimum of a BS in Chemical Engineering

Language Requirements: English

 

Background and Experience:

  • Minimum of a BS in Chemical Engineering
  • Two to three years of relevant experience
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • History of positive results

Desired:

  • Five years’ operations or technical experience at the plant
  • Certification or interest in seeking certification as a Six Sigma Black/Green Belt 

 

Competencies and Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities with strong communication and writing skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Excel Skills
  • Process Simulation Software Skills (ChemCAD or Aspen Plus  and HTRI)
  • Strong Technical & Organizational Skills
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Financial Skills
